Location: The successful candidate can either be based at our Preston or our Penrith office, depending on their circumstances.
The Role:
We are looking to recruit a qualified and experienced Arboricultural Consultant to join our growing team on a full-time permanent basis. The main purpose of the role is to deliver an efficient and effective arboricultural consultancy service in a dynamic, client-focused, commercial environment. The post holder will work flexibly, independently and as part of the team.
Main Duties of the Role:
- To take responsibility for surveying and inspecting trees for development site assessments and for risk management purposes.
- To prepare associated reports, directly liaising with clients, agents, local planning authorities and members of the public, on behalf of the company and its clients.
- To assist in the management of junior staff, where required.
The Successful Candidate will be:
Self-motivated, diligent, and an effective communicator, with a professional manner and a keen eye for detail.
Essential Criteria:
- An arboriculture qualification to a minimum of level 5;
- At least 2 years’ experience in tree surveying, report preparation and client liaison;
- Excellent report writing skills;
- Experience in the preparation of fee proposals;
- A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of all relevant arboricultural legislation and guidance, in particular the planning system and BS5837:2012;
- Strong tree, pest and disease identification skills and a good understanding of tree biology and tree biomechanics;
- An understanding and appreciation of project budgetary constraints and targets;
- Experience of project management;
- Computer and IT literate, with experience in using Microsoft Office products and, preferably, CAD; and
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria:
- Chartered arboriculturist status with the Institute of Charted Foresters (MICFor)
- Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association (MArborA)
- LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection qualification
- Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) licence holder
- VALID Tree Risk Assessment system licence holder
- Experience of staff management
- Natural England bat survey licence (at any level), and associated experience in this field

The role is mainly office-based but includes regular site work. Site work is usually within a 100-mile radius of the Preston office, but there are instances where travel further afield within the UK is necessary. A willingness to travel nationwide, including overnight trips, is required. Our main office is in Preston city centre, however, there is scope for the post holder to be based from our satellite office in Penrith, Cumbria.

Job Type:
- Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
- Permanent (subject to a six-month probationary period)
Salary:
- £29,000 to £33,000 dependent on experience
Additional pay:
- Bonus payments (dependant on performance and wholly at the discretion of the company)
Holidays:
- 28 days per annum, including public and bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time employees)
- One additional day off given for staff birthdays, entirely at the discretion of the Director
- One additional day’s leave after two years’ continuous service
- One additional day’s leave after four years’ continuous service

Experience:
